Middle East Policy
-
Focus on getting the moderate Arabs to denounce the radicals and to cut off their funding.
-
We need to speak to Muslims in their terms "The Quran strictly prohibits the killing of innocent civilians."
-
Act decisively to reestablish moral authority and the appeal of our society. We must remind the Arabs of the many great success stories of Arabs in the USA. We must sell our founding fathers principles. We must embrace and emphasize common ground principles.
-
We will not let terrorists change our way of life.
-
We will strengthen our defenses against a terrorist threat, but will at the same time understand that a policy designed to prevent any conceivable attack is impossible and can do more damage to civil rights and freedom of movement than is worth it.
-
We must expand efforts to promote education, political and economic change in the Middle East.
-
We must help the Middle East region overcome the despair and humility that fuel the terrorist threat.
-
Microfinance loans must be increased by 1000% in the region. We must strive to place hope in the future in every young person in the region. People working long days building businesses have no energy left for fighting. Just like American teenagers - keeping them busy and out of gangs with a good job and exciting activities will be a better solution than a focus on punishment and authoritarian rule.
-
Launch a major program to wean off our dependence on imported oil.
-
We must support efforts to diversify the economies of the Middle Eastern countries so that they are no overly dependent on oil and so that their young people can have engaging jobs that keep them off the path to trouble.
-
We must listen and engage the legitimate gripes that the Arab World has against certain actions of the Government and Military of Israel. At this time they have an exaggerated position regarding our support of Israel. We need to diffuse this anger with dialogue and understanding. This will serve to increase the security of not only the USA, but also Israel and the rest of the World. This does not mean that we give up our support of the Israeli democracy. This simply means that we let Arabs know that we listen to them, we understand their grievances, and we will provide verbal expressions of condemnation at Israel when we agree that Israel has gone too far with certain actions. If Israel does not respond to our condemnations when appropriate we will cut off funding support.
-
We must recognize that extremist Islamism is not an ideology likely to win enduring support if we take steps to diffuse anger in the moderate Arab World.
- The U.S. should take seriously the views of our potential allies, recognizing their legitimate interests, and seek to win their support and cooperation in confronting the common threat.
